“Be a 24 hour Martial Artist. You can't be a chump outside the dojang and then expect to be a champ inside the dojang. Excellence is a lifestyle, you have to live it.”
After hearing about Kuk Sool Won from a friend, Graeme joined the Edinburgh club in 1999 and was instantly hooked on this highly physical yet technical martial art. Graeme continued to train over the following years, working his way up through the belts. In 2005 he was then awarded his 1st Degree Black Belt at the European Championships in Norwich by Kuk Sool Won Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh. It was from this day that Graeme realised that his training in Kuk Sool had only just begun.
Promoting to 4th Degree Black Belt in May 2016, Graeme's progression towards 5th Degree Black Belt will take another 6 years of training and involves him developing his skill and expertise in all aspects of Kuk Sool Won, as well as continuing to learn the enormous syllabus of forms, techniques and weapons. His dedication to being the most complete martial artist possible earns him the respect of his fellow practitioners and allows him to be a highly knowledgable and insightful teacher.
His passion for Kuk Sool Won is evident in his motivational teaching style and hopes that his enthusiasm in turn inspires his students in class. Graeme particularly excels in kicking, forms, techniques and acrobatics which are similarly the areas he finds most rewarding. Graeme is also particularly interested and gifted in the self defence aspect of training in martial arts, for which Kuk Sool Won is unsurpassed. Besides the physical training Kuk Sool Won has given Graeme so much more, including the opportunity to travel, meet so many great people and instilled in him greater understanding, respect and purpose.
In the 2007 Graeme relocated to London to further his Kuk Sool training under Master Nick Reeve (5th Degree Black Belt). Graeme gained many improvements in his training under Master Nicks instruction, guidance and vast experience. Master Nick is recognised as one of the most talented martial artists and instructors in the UK. This close relationship with Master Nick has also meant that Graeme has had the opportunity to travel around the UK and Europe gaining instruction from many of the best Kuk Sool instructors and masters. Experience and knowledge that he is now giving back to the next generation of Martial Arts students in Kirkcaldy.
Graeme has an abundance of experience as an athlete, competing in a variety of sports and activities at local, national and international levels since his teens. These experiences led Graeme to become a fully qualified Sports Therapist, Soft Tissue Therapist and Biomechanics Coach. As such he has extensive knowledge of Assessment techniques, Exercise prescription, Exercise Principles & Fitness Testing, Flexibility Training, Movement and Mobility exercises, Prevention & Management of Sports Injuries and Nutrition for Fitness Health & Exercise which will enhance your martial arts training.
